叶片是镶嵌在槽里的,可以自由滑动,当旋转产生时,叶片在离心作用下甩到泵壳上,叶片泵是容积泵,相邻的两个叶片运动到下边时与泵壳和转子封闭的容积小,在上边时大,当转子顺时针转动时,相邻两叶片经历从下边到上边的过程就是容积增大过程,所以吸油(从第四象限到第二象限);从上到下是容积减小过程,所以压油(从第二到第四象限)。
当电机带动转子沿转动时,叶片在离心力和叶片底部压力油的双重作用下向外伸出,其顶部紧贴在定子内表面上。处于四段同心圆弧上的四个叶片分别与转子外表面、定子内表面及两个配流盘组成四个密封工作油腔。这些油腔随着转子的转动,密封工作油腔产生由小到大或由大到小的变化,可以通过配流盘的吸油窗口(与吸油口相连)或排油窗口(与排油口相连)将油液吸入或压出。
在转子每转过程中,每个工作油腔完成两次吸油和压油,所以称为双作用式叶片泵,由于高低压腔相互对称对称,轴受力平衡,为卸荷式。
